The Sri Lanka Deputy High Commission in Chennai held its Christmas event on 09 December 2019. The event was graced by the Deputy High Commissioner V. Krishnamoorthy, Christian clergy, officials of Sri Lankan establishments in Chennai, Mission staff and well-wishers. A choir of Mission staff sang Christmas carols at the event. The Deputy High Commissioner during his welcome address, spoke about the message of Christmas which is compassion, joy and peace. Rev. V. S. Vijayakumar of the Egmore Wesley Church, Chennai referred to the birth of Christ, its message of establishing justice and righteousness and, inculcating and practicing such values in our day to day life.
The highlight of the event was the participation of differently abled children from the Parivalaya School for Children of Special Needs, Chennai who also performed a song at the event. These children were presented gifts which were bought by the generous donation of the Mission staff. The event concluded with a high tea reception.
