Children’s Day – Art Competition Held in Lebanon

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Beirut organized an art competition to commemorate the International Children’s Day with the participation of the children of the Sri Lankan Community in Lebanon. The competition was held at the Embassy premises on 15th October 2017. 

The International Children’s Day is dedicated to raise awareness on issues related to children, including child welfare, wellbeing and their rights. In this context, the Embassy of Sri Lanka organized the event with a view to developing the skills of the Sri Lankan children in Lebanon and to provide them with an opportunity to demonstrate their artistic talents.   

 

16 Sri Lankan children participated in the compertition and medals were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places under two age categories while certificates were distributed among all participants.  Miss Pavithra Arthi, Miss Imasha Sewwandi and Miss N Sonali Samaraweera won the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively in the category of age under 10 years, and Master Usindu Dilmika Marasinghe, Miss Rokaiya Radi and Master Priyan Manilka won the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively in the category of age under 17 years.

 

Drawing material for the competition were provided by the Embassy and it was judged by Ms. Rita Hobeich, Fine Art Gallery, Ms. Junko Hoki, Collaborator in Lebanon for Japan Development Service and Ms. Noel Keserwany of Caritas Centre. The competition was sponsored by Trico Cargo service.

 

Speaking at the certificate awarding ceremony, Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Lebanon H.M.G.R.R.K. Wijeratne Mendis stated that this event was organized with a view to strengthening the relations between the Embassy and the Sri Lankan expatriate community in Lebanon, and also to encourage children who are talented in painting and fine arts.
