Rear Admiral Ruwan Dias, the Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG), visited India from 26-30 Aug 2012 at the invitation of Vice Admiral M.P. Muralidharan, Director General of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). During the visit Rear Admiral Dias held meetings with Director General of the India Coast Guard as well as senior officials of the Ministry of Defence in India, in manifestation of close bilateral cooperation between the security establishments of India and Sri Lanka.
Rear Admiral Ruwan Dias, the Director General Sri Lanka Coast Guard (SLCG), visited India from 26-30 Aug 2012 at the invitation of Vice Admiral M.P. Muralidharan, Director General of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). During the visit Rear Admiral Dias held meetings with Director General of the India Coast Guard as well as senior officials of the Ministry of Defence in India, in manifestation of close bilateral cooperation between the security establishments of India and Sri Lanka.
The visit, the first after the establishment of SLCG on 04 th March, 2010, will provide a fresh impetus to the existing ties between the ICG and SLCG in relation to the maritime security in the region, and further strengthen operational level interaction between the two Coast Guards for the benefit of both countries. The official discussions, among other issues, focused on common maritime interests, sharing of experience and expertise, training of personnel, s earch and rescue and pollution control. Rear Admiral Dias called on High Commissioner Prasad Kariyawasam during his stay in New Delhi and embarked on a field visit to Indian Coast Guard Ships in Mumbai as well.
