Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry to finalise Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral trade and business

The Covid crisis is an opportunity to rethink to build back better business relations which ensure mutual benefits for Sri Lanka and Maldives.  This was stressed at a meeting held on 26 August, 2021 between officials of the Sri Lanka High Commission in Maldives and the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The prime objective of the meeting was to refresh the long standing economic and trade relations with the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (CCC) and the Maldives National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI).

At the discussion, it was agreed to organize dialogues preferably virtual meetings by the two Chambers to plan out activities that could be carried out together to promote bilateral trade, investment and tourism areas in addition  to evaluate periodically the potential business opportunities for Sri Lanka and Maldives Companies to further developing business alliances and rectify trade barriers.

It was also emphasized that the members of the MNCCI to join the membership of Sri Lanka Maldives Business Council (SLMBC) of the CCC  in order to create to mutual opportunities and take proactive steps to increase economic cooperation and partnership.

As proposed by the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce, the two parties will work to finalise the fresh MoU to establish grater trade links focusing on the growing potential sectors of the both economies.
