The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Toronto commenced work for the year 2020 with a ceremonial programme held at the Consulate premises on 02 January 2020.
At the commencement of the ceremony, Consul General Kapila S. Jayaweera hoisted the National Flag of Sri Lanka followed by singing of the National Anthem of Sri Lanka. Afterwards, a two-minute silence was observed in remembrance of the war heroes and others who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the Motherland.
The Oath of public servants was taken by the Consul General and the staff members. Addressing the staff, Consul General thanked the staff for the cooperation extended in 2019 and requested to further enhance the individual as well as institutional performance whilst best serving the Sri Lankan community who live in Toronto with dedication and integrity for an efficient and productive public service.
The Consul General also highlighted the importance of this year to work hard to achieve targets for the vast economical development in the country presented in the policy statement “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour” by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
The programme concluded with sumptuous traditional sweets to the staff and Sri Lankans who visited the Consulate to obtain consular services.
