A special programme was held at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Ha Noi, Viet Nam on 02 January 2019 to mark the first working day of 2019.
The programme commenced with the hoisting of the National Flag by Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Vietnam Hasanthi Urugodawatte Dissanayake, followed by singing of the National Anthem by staff in both Sinhala and Tamil languages. Two minutes of silence was observed to commemorate war heroes and others who sacrificed their lives on behalf of the motherland. The Oath of Public Servants was read by the staff thereafter.
After lighting the traditional oil lamp by all the staff members, the Ambassador made a brief speech wishing them a happy and prosperous new year. Further, she reflected on the achievements of the year 2018 and thanked the staff for their efforts in achieving the same. She also highlighted the necessity for working efficiently and effectively to promote Sri Lanka’s interest in Viet Nam, with whatever resources that can be harnessed. Further, the Ambassador explained the importance of team work and contribution of all staff members to achieve targets set for 2019. She requested staff members to make their active contribution to promote Sri Lanka, especially in the economic cooperation sphere.
The programme ended with treating the staff to traditional Sri Lankan delicacies and Ceylon Tea.
