The 67th Anniversary of Independence Day of Sri Lanka was celebrated on 4th February at the premises of Embassy of Sri Lanka in Amman.
The celebration commenced with the hoisting the National Flag by Sri Lanka’s Ambassador Gamini Rajapakse, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The traditional oil lamp was lighted by the Ambassador and special invitees.
Multi-faith religious observances followed and two minutes silence was observed in honour of those scarified their lives to protect the sovereignty and peace in the country.
The Independence Day Message of H E the President Maitripala Sirisena was read in all three languages by the Ambassador, First Secretary and the Third Secretary.
Addressing the gathering, the Ambassador emphasized the significance changes and developments taking place in Sri Lanka with the newly elected President Maithripala Sirisena and the Cabinet Members and congratulated them. The Ambassador also mentioned that it is need to further develop the Sri Lanka’s relationship with the government of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
At the end of the programme the invitees were treated with Sri Lanka’s traditional food items organized by the staff of the Embassy.
A Diplomatic reception was organized at Amman Le Meridian Hotel in the evening of 4th February 2014 and Sri Lankan cultural dances were performed at the event was sponsored by well-wishers in Jordan.
