The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Mumbai celebrated the 66 th Independence Day of Sri Lanka at the Mission premises on 4th February 2014.
The Sri Lankan community residing in the State of Maharashtra, Goa & Gujarat, the members of the Indo-Sri Lanka Society, members of the Business Chambers, Media Personnels and well wishers attended the ceremony.
Consul General hoisted the National Flag and special guests lit the traditional oil lamp, blessing Sri Lanka for prosperity. Priests from Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and Islamic religion conducted religious prayers.
The Messages of H.E. the President Mahinda Rajapaksa,Hon. Prime Minister and Hon. Minister of External Affairs were read at the occasion. Addressing the gathering, Consul General stated that the durable peace in Sri Lanka has opened wide range of trade, tourism and investment opportunities for the Indian business community. She also detailed the Mission's activities carried out during the past few years to meet the national goals set under Mahinda Chintana “Vision for the Future” to emerge Sri Lanka as the wonder of Asia by 2016. She also emphasised the importance of widening people to people contact through various socio-economic and cultural activities to further strengthen the relations between India and Sri Lanka.
At the end of the event, a reception was held for the participants.
