The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou celebrated the 73st Independence Day of Sri Lanka in Guangzhou, with the Sri Lankan community consisting of businessmen who joined the Consul General, Priyangika Dharmasena and officers of the Consulate on 4 February 2021.
The programme begun with unfurling of the National Flag amidst magul bera, the singing of the National Anthem, alighting the traditional oil lamp by dignitaries and performing the multi- religious ceremony with blessings for our Motherland in the wake of the COVID outbreak. The excerpt of the President’s National Policy Framework ‘Vistas of Splendour and Prosperity and the Independence day messages of the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister were read out by the Consul General and staff in three languages, ending with the speech by the Consul General.
In her speech, the Consul General spoke of the importance of remembering the forefathers of the nation who sacrificed their lives to save the Motherland from subjugation, giving her people a future of freedom. National Policy Framework of ‘Vistas of Prosperity and Splendor’ was also emphasized in the speech and in line with the policy, the activities carried out by the Consulate during the past years towards a prosperous Sri Lanka were revealed. The Consul General also requested all present, to convey the message to Sri Lankan friends who had not registered with the Consulate to do so, for better coordination in times of need.
The occasion concluded by inviting the Sri Lankan community to partake of traditional Sri Lankan food including milk rice and other sweetmeats while watching the screen, showing breathtaking beauties, industries and achievements of Sri Lanka.
