New Year Celebrations in Tokyo

The Sri Lankan New Year celebrations were held in Tokyo’s Chofu city on Sunday, 14th April with a large gathering of over 5000 Sri Lankan and Japanese community members from all parts of Japan who participated at the occasion, which was held for the 24th consecutive occasion. The Chief Guest at the opening ceremony was Hon.Yoshiki Nagatamo, Mayor of Chofu City.

Sinhala & Tamil New Year celebrated in the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kuwait

On the occasion of the Sinhala & Tamil New Year, the Sri Lanka Embassy  in Kuwait organized a day-long celebration at the Embassy premises on 14th April 2013. The celebration began with the hoisting of the national flag followed by the singing of national anthem and lighting of the ceremonial oil lamp.  A pot of milk was boiled to mark this auspicious occasion.

UGANDA INVESTMENT FORUM

Hon. Sarath Amunugama, Senior Minister for International Monitory Co-operation and Dy. Minister of Finance and Planning participated in the Commonwealth Investment Forum held at Kampala, Uganda from 11-12th April 2013. The Minister’s participation at the event assumed greater importance in view of the fact that Sri Lanka is due to host the next Commonwealth Investment Forum in November 2013, on the sidelines of the CHOGM.

The Embassy of Sri Lanka together with the Philippine-Sri Lanka Friendship Association held Sinhala Tamil New Year celebrations at San Lorenzo grounds, Makati on the 21st April 2013from 3.00 – 8.00 p.m.

The Sri Lankan community in the Philippines, members of the Philippine-Sri Lanka Friendship Association, members of the Philippine-Sri Lanka Business Council and well wishers were present at the occasion.

Students from Zahira College visit India

Zahira

Seven schoolboys from the Advanced and Ordinary Level standards of Zahira College, together with their Principal A.R. Marikkar, are currently on a visit to India from 15 – 22 April 2013.

The visit is organized by the India-Sri Lanka Foundation, which has as its objectives, the promotion of greater understanding, educational and cultural cooperation between the peoples of India and Sri Lanka.
