Handing over of compensation/salary dues and other redress to families of deceased migrant workers abroad

The families of deceased migrant workers in the Middle East and Russia received compensation on 26thNovember 2015 at an event organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Thirty four such families received Sri Lankan Rupees 50 million from Hon. Dr. Harsha de Silva, Actg. Minister of Foreign Affairs. This is the third such event organized by the Ministry for the year 2015.

Romanian Ambassador calls on Dep Foreign Minister

H.E. Dr Victor Chiujdea, Ambassador  of Romania, met  Dr  Harsha de Silva, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs today (16/11)  at the Ministry. The Ambassador emphasized  on the longstanding  diplomatic ties between the  two countries established in 1957. Among other things, both Ambassador Chiujdea and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed the need to expedite the  signing of  bilateral agreements  on education, science, culture, mass media, youth and sports, investment promotion and protection etc.  during the  discussion.

The first session of the Foreign Office Consultations between Sri Lanka and Bhutan concluded in Colombo on Monday 16th November, 2015.  The Bhutan delegation was led by Mr. Tshering Dorji, Foreign Secretary, while Ms. Chitranganee Wagiswara, Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs led the Sri Lanka delegation. The Consultations were convened following the signature of the Memorandum of Understanding signed during the visit of the Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay in April 2015. It may be recalled that the highlight of the visit was the gift of the Bo Sapling of the Sacred Sri Maha Bodhi in celebration of the 60th Birth Anniversary of the Fourth King of Bhutan.
