Austrian President receives Credentials from Sri Lankan Ambassador

His Excellency Dr. Heinz Fischer, President of the Republic of Austria, received the Letter of Credence from A.L. Abdul Azeez, Sri Lanka’s envoy in Vienna at a ceremony held at the Vienna Hofburg Palace on September 28, 2011.

The event was followed by a discussion at the Office of the Austrian President.  Ambassador Azeez briefed the Austrian Head of State on Sri Lanka’s current trajectory towards peace, reconciliation and economic development, highlighting the recent positive developments in the country under the leadership of His Excellency President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The Austrian President conveyed to Ambassador Azeez, the assurances of goodwill and support of the Republic of Austria, for the strengthening of peace and stability and for reconciliation in Sri Lanka.  Wishing the President and the people of Sri Lanka well, he expressed the hope that Sri Lanka would continue to make progress in this area, taking into account the welfare of all its people. 

Ambassador Azeez, as the new Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations and  other International Organizations in Vienna, has already presented Credentials to the Director General of the United Nations Office in Vienna, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Authority, the Executive Secretary for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test-Ban Treaty Organization, and the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization.
