The Association of Old Anandians in the UK proudly celebrated the distinguished career and contributions of esteemed past pupil, High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to the United Kingdom and Ambassador to the Republic of Ireland Rohitha Bogollagama at a felicitation ceremony held on 24 February 2024. The event brought together a distinguished gathering of past pupils of Ananda College, Colombo, residing across the United Kingdom, including the Major N.L.C. Perera, the oldest Anandian in the UK. The High Commissioner was warmly welcomed by the Association's President Champika Silva, Secretary Lucian De Zoysa, and Treasurer Chandrasoma Senanayake.
During the ceremony, a member of the Association Dr. Narada Wijayatilake commended the High Commissioner’s illustrious career, spanning decades of dedicated service in both the legal and political realms. He highlighted the services rendered by the High Commissioner in his Ministerial roles particularly handling the portfolios of Industries and Foreign Affairs.
In his speech, High Commissioner Bogollagama highlighted the importance of reconciliation and unity within the Sri Lankan community, underscoring the pivotal role of the High Commission in fostering connections with the wider Sri Lankan community, dispersed across every corner of the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland. He also reiterated his commitment to serving their needs and promoting their interests.
The Association presented High Commissioner Bogollagama with a plaque of appreciation for his outstanding achievements and distinguished service in Sri Lanka, as well as for his unwavering commitment to Ananda College, Colombo.
The felicitation ceremony provided a momentous opportunity to honour the exemplary leadership and profound impact of High Commissioner Rohitha Bogollagama’s dedication in advancing the interests of Sri Lanka and its diaspora community in the United Kingdom.
