The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kuwait, in coordination with the Sri Lanka Association for Funeral Assistance & Social Services in Kuwait, organized the annual Pirith ceremony for the 4th consecutive year, at the Embassy premises on 26 December 2019.
An eight member delegation of Buddhist monks, led by Ven. Kovane Palitha Thero from Sri Lanka, conducted the all night-Pirith ceremony and invoked blessings of the Noble Triple Gems on all Sri Lankans, including those residing in Kuwait, for the Year 2020. A large number of Sri Lankans, representing Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and Christian communities took part at the Sil observance and the sermon delivered by the Maha Sanga on 27 December 2019.
While delivering the sermon, Ven. Kovane Palitha Thero highlighted the importance of adhering to the teachings of the Lord Buddha and also appreciated the support extended by the community members and the Embassy staff in conducting the religious events.
Ambassador Mohammed Jauhar extended his appreciation to the Maha Sanga, the community and the Embassy staff for providing the unique opportunity to the followers of Buddhism in a foreign country and for making the event a great success.
The Embassy staff also arranged an almsgiving to the Maha Sanga on 27 December 2019, at the Embassy premises. The entire event was covered by the “Ethera Methera” team of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Cooperation.
The Embassy, in coordination with the Sri Lanka Cultural Association of Kuwait, also organized the visit of Ven. Olaganwatte Chandrasiri Thero to deliver a sermon, on 6 December 2019. Minister of the Mission, Poshitha Perera coordinated the preparations and conducting the events, with the associations and the staff, under the guidance of the Ambassador.
