General Jagath Jayasuriya presented credentials to Her Excellency Dilma Rousseff President of the Federative Republic of Brazil at the President Palace (Palace of Planalto)  in Brasilia on 04th November 2015.  Twenty one other Ambassadors presented credentials to the President.

General Jagath Jayasuriya presented credentials to Her Excellency Dilma Rousseff President of the Federative Republic of Brazil at the President Palace (Palace of Planalto)  in Brasilia on 04th November 2015.  Twenty one other Ambassadors presented credentials to the President.

The Ambassador, escorted in a motorcade by Brazilian Foreign Ministry Officials, was received by dignitaries of the palace followed by a guard of honour. Members of the President Palace, Officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs including the Foreign Minister were present at the Ceremony.

After the presentation of credentials, Ambassador Gen. Jagath Jayasuriya had a discussion with H.E. Dilma Rousseff President of Brazil.  The Ambassador conveyed the best wishes and greetings of the President H.E. Maithripala Sirisena, the Prime Minister Hon. Ranil Wickramasinghe and the Government and People of Sri Lanka.

During the discussion Ambassador General Jagath Jayasuriya highlighted the excellent bilateral  relations that existed between Brazil and Sri Lanka and underscored that he would ensure to deepen the relationship between the two countries during his tenure.  The Ambassador also briefed the President regarding developments that had taken place after the presidential election held in January 2015 and the general election held in August 2015.

Ambassador Gen. Jayasuriya also briefed President Rousseff on the improvement of trade  and tourism between the two countries and stated that that action would be taken to expand trade relations and tourism.

General Jagath Jayasuriya has served in the military for over 3 decades, and is the former Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army.
