Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Azmi Thassim, called on Dr. Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sheikh, Minister of Education of Kingdom Saudi Arabia earlier this week at the Ministry.
In a cordial discussion, both parties discussed at length particular on the current status of the three Sri Lankan community schools operating in the Kingdom. Ambassador presented a set of proposals received from the school authorities on strengthening the Sri Lankan community schools for the consideration of the Minister.
Two parties also discussed about the scholarships offered by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Sri Lanka. While explaining that these scholarships are being offered for all subject streams except for medicine, the Minister underlined that Sri Lanka has not, so far, fully utilized the allocated scholarships. He encouraged Sri Lankan students to benefit from this opportunity.
Ambassador appreciated the Minister for supporting the Sri Lankan community schools in the Kingdom and the update given on the scholarship scheme offered by the Kingdom for the Sri Lankan students. He conveyed to the Minister that the Embassy will play an active role in promoting the scholarship program among the eligible Sri Lankan students.
Minister Counsellor of the Embassy, Madhuka Wickramarachchi and A.L.M. Jabeer, Desk Officer/ Bilateral Affairs assisted Ambassador Thassim at this meeting.
