The newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Arab Republic of Egypt, Renuka Damayanthie Rajapakse presented the Letters of Credence to President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah El – Sisi on 02 December 2019 at the Presidential Palace in Cairo, Egypt.
The Ambassador was received in audience by the President Abdel Fattah El –Sisi following the submission of Credentials. During the audience, the Ambassador conveyed the best wishes from President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa for the good health and happiness of the President of Egypt and for peace, prosperity and happiness of the people of the Arab Republic of Egypt. The President of Egypt conveyed his best wishes to the President and the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.
The Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Sameh Shoukry was also present at the Presidential Palace during the Ceremony.
Ambassador referred to the possibilities of enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two countries and mentioned that the First Round of Political Consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Egypt and Sri Lanka are scheduled to be held on 12 December 2019. Ambassador stated that this will be a forum to deliberate on a wide range of topical subjects related to bilateral and multilateral cooperation in politics, economy and culture, confirming the mutual interest in developing multi-faceted ties between the two countries in various fields.
The President of Egypt congratulated the Ambassador and assured full support and cooperation from the Government of Egypt in discharging her responsibilities in her capacity as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka’s newly appointed envoy to Egypt is a graduate of the University of Peradeniya and had joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1994. She served as Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Sweden and had previously served in several Sri Lanka Missions abroad. Prior to assuming duties as the Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Egypt she was the Director-General of the East Asia, South East Asia and the Oceania Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka.
