Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe met with Secretary General of the Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) of Thailand, Bhmivisan Kasemsook, on 11 October 2024, to explore potential collaborations on enhancing anti-corruption efforts in both countries.
Secretary General Bhmivisan Kasemsook delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the roles and responsibilities of the PACC, and highlighted the importance of international cooperation in combating corruption.
Ambassador Edirisinghe emphasized the importance of strengthening institutional frameworks and sharing best practices in combating corruption. She further briefed the Secretary General on the implementation of the National Action Plan for Combating Bribery and Corruption in Sri Lanka, and also on the regular workshops and awareness programmes carried out by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) of Sri Lanka for public servants. Moreover, she recalled that Anti-Corruption Act was enacted by the Parliament of Sri Lanka in 2023.
Secretary-General Bhmivisan Kasemsook appreciated the initiatives taken by the Government of Sri Lanka in addressing corruption-related cases and ensuring the enforcement of anti-corruption laws. Ambassador Edirisinghe assured to foster collaboration between the Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) of Thailand and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) of Sri Lanka.
During the discussions, both sides explored potential avenues for bilateral collaboration to strengthen anti-corruption initiatives and share best practices with each other. Head of Chancery/ First Secretary of the Embassy of Sri Lanka, A.W.S. Samanmali, Attaché, Anjana Ileperuma, and Senior Officials of the Office of Public Sector Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) of Thailand also took part in the discussions.
