Ambassador of Sri Lanka in Moscow participates in a familiarization visit to the Ministry of North Caucasus Affairs

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, participated in a familiarization visit to the Ministry for North Caucasus Affairs, along with a group of newly-appointed Heads of Foreign Missions in Moscow, on 25 September 2018.

The meeting hosted by the Russian Ministry for North Caucasus Affairs for the newly appointed Heads of Mission focused on the perspectives of economic development and development of tourism in the territories of the North Caucasus. The meeting was attended by Ambassadors and senior diplomats from 30 foreign missions in Moscow.

This newly-established Ministry is housed in a historical building which was occupied by the People’s Сommissariat of Nationalities in 1920s. The building had also served as the residence of Joseph Stalin and his spouse.

The visit of  Heads of Mission to the Ministry for North Caucasus Affairs was one of the series of familiarization visits to Russian Government bodies, organized by the Russian Foreign Ministry’s State Protocol Department.

Addressing the gathering, Minister for North Caucasus Affairs, Sergey V. Chebotaryov, highlighted the development of the North Caucasian Federal District of Russia and its investment opportunities in the areas of agriculture, industry and tourism.  The minister also said that the North Caucasian Federal District is experiencing a noticeable growth.

The North Caucasus region has 7 renovated airports, new and refurbished railways, as well as well-equipped motor roads.
