Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand and Permanent Representative to UNESCAP, Wijayanthi Edirisinghe attended the Navaratri Pooja held at the Maha Mari Amman Hindu Temple in Bangkok on 11 October 2024, as the chief guest of the event. The ceremony, which celebrated the vibrant festival of Navaratri, brought together devotees and members of the Hindu community in a spirit of devotion and unity.
During the event, Ambassador Edirisinghe expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the auspicious occasion, and emphasized the significance of cultural and religious diversity in strengthening community bonds.
The event featured traditional prayers, cultural performances, and offerings to deities, showcasing the rich heritage and customs of the Hindu faith. Members of the community appreciated the Ambassador's presence, highlighting the importance of diplomatic engagement in promoting understanding and cooperation among diverse cultures.
The Maha Mari Amman Hindu Temple, known for its beautiful architecture and serene atmosphere, serves as a spiritual hub for the Hindu community in Bangkok. The Navaratri Pooja is a significant event in the Hindu calendar, celebrating the divine feminine and the triumph of good over evil.
Ambassador Wijayanthi Edirisinghe wished the attendees a joyful and blessed Navaratri, while reaffirming Sri Lanka's commitment to fostering cultural exchange and mutual respect among all communities in Thailand. Head of Chancery of the Embassy of Sri Lanka, A. W. S. Samanmali, Attaché of the Embassy, Anjana Ileperuma also joined the event.
