Mr. A.L.Mohamed Lafeer the newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan presented his credentials to His Majesty King Abdulla II Bin Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan on Sunday, 6th December 2015, at the Basman palace of the King. Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan Hon. Nasser Judeh and the Chief of Royal Court Hon. Fayez Tarawneh were also present at the ceremony.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan Hon. Nasser Judeh and the Chief of Royal Court Hon. Fayez Tarawneh were also present at the ceremony.

Ambassador Lafeer conveyed the warm greetings and best wishes from President Maithiripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe for His Majesty’s personal good health, happiness & wellbeing and for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Ambassador noting that the year 2015 marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Jordan and both countries, expressed his commitment to expand relations between the two countries to new areas with the valuable support of Jordan. The Ambassador also appreciated the visit of the late King Hussein’s visit to Sri Lanka to participate at the Non Alignment Summit that was held in Colombo in 1976.

The King, reciprocated warm greetings and best wishes, and noted that there existed room for both countries to enhance and consolidate existing cooperation in areas such as security and defense; trade and commerce, culture and bilateral relations. Referring to high level visit from Jordan to Sri Lanka that had taken place nearly four decades ago, His Majesty the King indicated his keen interest to undertake a visit to Sri Lanka and said that he looked forward to see  high level visits between the two countries to increase at an early opportunity.

Ambassador Mr. A.L.M Lafeer is a carrier diplomat with over twenty one years of experience. He is an Attorney-at–Law, with Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. Besides postings in Kuwait, Canada, UAE, Lebanon and Thailand, he also served as Sri Lankan Consul General in Jeddah Saudi Arabia.
