Ambassador Majintha Jayesinghe presented Letters of Credence in Austria

Ambassador Majintha Jayesinghe presented Letters of Credence toFederal President of the Republic of Austria Dr. Alexander Van der Bellen at the Hofburg Palace in Vienna as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to Austria on 30 June 2020.

The ceremony commenced with the presentation of the Letters of Credence, followed by a Presidential Guard of Honour. The Ambassador was accompanied by Counsellor and Head of Chancery of the Embassy Charitha Weerasinghe.

Ambassador Majintha Jayesinghe conveyed greetings from President of Sri Lanka Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Mahinda Rajapaksa and the People of Sri Lanka to Federal President of the Republic of Austria Dr. Alexander Van der Bellenand the People of Austria. President Van der Bellen reciprocated greetings to the President and Prime Minister of Sri Lanka and recalled his visit to Sri Lanka.

During the courtesy call the Ambassador mentioned that Sri Lanka-Austria special relations have grown exponentially covering a multitude of areas with mutual benefits. It wasfurtherstated thatSri Lanka hopes to further strengthen and expand the friendly relations into new vistas of cooperation in the years ahead.

Following the credential ceremony a reception was held at the Embassyfor Officials of the Federal Ministry of European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria, Diplomatic Corp,Official from the Diplomatic Institutions, leading official of Think Tank, Media, Sri Lankan Community and the Embassy Staff and Families.

Ambassador Majintha Jayesinghe joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 1998 and was Ambassador in the United Arab Emirates, prior to the appointment in Austria. The diplomatic career entailed serving as Consul General in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China and Deputy High Commissioner in Malaysia.

Ambassador Majintha Jayesinghe is a graduate of the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom and a past pupil of St. Joseph’s College and Royal College, Colombo.
