On February 21, 2019 H. E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, accompanied by Madame Sanja Jayatilleka, met with Professor Andrei Shutov, Doctor of Historical Sciences, who holds the post of Dean of the Faculty of Political Science of the Lomonosov Moscow State University.
The university was also represented by Mr. Anton Kompleev, PhD, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Political Science for International Affairs, Dr. Sergey Golubev, Head of the International Office of the same Faculty, Professor Vladimir Kapitsyn, Deputy Head of the Department of Comparative Political Science at MSU, as well as Mr. Intigam Mamedov, PhD, Head of the Office of Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies.
In his conversation with the leading political scientists of Russia, H. E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka touched upon three topics, related to the area of his expertise. First of all, the ethics of violence, and the need to differentiate between legitimate liberation and resistance movements and terrorism proper was brought up, with the parties further moving onto the discussion of the problem of the Cold War from the point of view of the Global South, which is a new perspective, largely overlooked by the main centres of political thought in the world today. Lastly, H. E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and MSU representatives talked about the complex crisis, created by the collision of the need of maintenance of state sovereignty on one hand and provision of the right of self-determination of every nation on the other hand. H. E. the Ambassador and academicians exchanged their ideas on the given subjects, and discussed historical aspects of the formation of today's World Order and the recent changes within, including the last address of President Putin to the Federal Assembly of Russia on February 20, 2019.
The matter of the multi-polar world was raised, and the name of academician Evgeny Maximovich Primakov was mentioned, who was an active supporter of this concept. Dr. Jayatilleka shared his memories of a long conversation he had with Mr. Primakov back in Sri Lanka, highly praising his contribution to the political science and international politics. At the end of the meeting H. E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka received an invitation to attend a conference for the 90th Jubilee of Yevgeny Primakov.
The meeting was held in a friendly atmosphere, as both H. E. the Ambassador and representatives of the pinnacle institution of political studies in Russia shared similar views on the modern world order, and situation in the world politics.
