On February 8, 2019 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka paid a visit to the Institute of World Economy and International Affairs (IMEMO) of Russian Academy of Science re-named after Evgeny Primakov, the outstanding academician and former Russian Foreign Minister and Prime Minister, who was the Head of IMEMO for 5 years. Founded in 1956 the Primakov Institute is now the oldest and the biggest thinktank in Eastern Europe (including Russia) with its mission to elaborate a reliable and independent research and analytical basis for strategic political decision-making. The Institute cooperates with federal and regional government bodies, mass media, major public and private companies and higher levels of state and government.
Ambassador Jayatilleka and Madame Jayatilleka were welcomed by Prof. Feodor Voitolovsky, Director of the Institute and Doctor in Politics, who is also Professor at the Department of Political Science at MGIMO University and member of the Editorial Board of “World Economy and International Relations” monthly journal as well as IMEMO’s “Global Development” almanac.
Prof. F.Voitolovsky highlighted that the main areas of the Institute activity are focused on research and analyses of foreign policy, international relations, security and world market as well as forecasting on developments of world economy and global trends in 15-20 years prospective, and prevention and resolution of international conflicts.
Dr.Voitolovsky stated that IMEMO organizes and holds international conferences and workshops. Ambassador Jayatilleka and Madame Jayatilleka were invited to attend the International Summit called “Primakov Readings”, which will be held in June and comprises 60 to 70 experts from all over the world this year.
Ambassador Jayatilleka and Prof. F. Voitolovsky had a long and in-depth discussion on the changes in the world order, world economy and international relations, and new models of the global economic and political development.
