On March 12, 2019, Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation, and Madame Sanja Jayatilleka visited the National Strategy Institute, one of the Russian think tanks, specializing on the strategic and situational analysis of complex national security issues, industrial policies, and problems of inter-ethnic relations, and had a meeting with its president Dr. Mikhail Remizov.
Doctor of Philosophy Mikhail Remizov, graduate of the Moscow State University, is the Director of the Centre for Information and Analyses of the Government Commission on the development of the Arctic, Chairman of the Presidium of Expert Council under the Board of Military Industry Commission of the Russian Federation. He was the Editor-in-Chief of the Agency of Political News (APN.ru), Editor of the politics section of The Russian Journal. His primary scientific interests include the history of political ideologies, economic development theories and theories of State, concepts of nations and nationalism. He authored more than 200 articles and several books, including the monography Russians and the State. National idea before and after the “Crimean Spring”.
Dr. Jayatilleka and his Russian colleague had a profound discussion of the Global situation from the perspective of national sovereignty and security issues. The role of the “soft power” and its potential in the international relations, the clash of ideologies – offensive and counter-offensive, historical view of the development of the present world order, the new situation of geo-economical levers of influence – were a few topics that were raised during the conversation.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Dr. Mikhail Remizov presented Ambassador Jayatilleka with his books on the ethnic policies of Russia and development of the Arctic region, published by the National Strategy Institute.
