On April 2, 2019 Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Russian Federation H.E. Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka paid a courtesy call to his Japanese counterpart H.E. Kozuki Toyohisa, who previously served as Director-General of the European Affairs Bureau of Japan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry, Head of Finance and later Management and Cooperation Divisions at the Secretariat of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan. Ambassador Kozuki Toyohisa had already held posts in Russia as a Counsellor and Deputy Head of Mission, Minister Plenipotentiary before he assumed the post of Ambassador and Head of Mission in Moscow.
Ambassador Jayatilleka expressed his gratitude to Japan for the close economic relationship and cultural ties that historically exist between the countries.
Ambassador Jayatilleka spoke warmly about the Japanese Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki whom he knew as a colleague during his term in Geneva. Ambassador Kozuki Toyohisa informed that he happened to work as the Head of Japan-US Security Treaty Division under the leadership of Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki when the latter was Director General of the North American Affairs Bureau in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Ambassador Ichiro Fujisaki is now President the America-Japan Society, Inc.
The two Heads of Missions discussed issues related to the Indo-Pacific concept. Ambassador Toyohisa explained that from Japan’s point of view the main emphasis was on the aspect of openness and the intention of the concept was an inclusive one.
