On 02 November 2019 Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia Dr. Dayan Jayatilleka accompanied by Madame Sanja Jayatilleka attended the celebration of Diwali, at the invitation of the Ambassador of India Venkatesh Varma. The celebration of the Festival of Lights was organized by the Embassy of India in association with the various Indian community organizations and took place at the RUDN People’s Friendship University of Russia.
The event gathered more than 1000 people including Heads of Diplomatic Missions accredited in Moscow and their spouses, Russian State Authorities and other Russian and Indian guests.
The Celebration commenced with a concert dedicated to the varied Diwali festivities across different parts of India, with national dances and singing. The performance was followed by the awarding ceremony for children of the Indian community for achievements in different spheres. At the end of the evening the guests were invited to enjoy the display of fireworks and the Indian national cuisine.
