The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar, Janaka Bandara met with the Immigration Minister of Myanmar, U Myint Kyaing on 01 June 2023 at the Ministry of Immigration and Population in Nay Pyi Taw.
During the meeting, Ambassador Janaka Bandara expressed gratitude to the Minister for personally intervening to release the Sri Lankans who were stranded in Myanmar as victims of human trafficking without proper visa.
Further, Ambassador sought the Minister’s assistance in releasing the remaining Sri Lankans who are currently held in immigration custody due to violation of visa regulations, based on humanitarian grounds. Moreover, the Ambassador and the Minister discussed ways to enhance cooperation between two countries in migration related matters.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Minister U Htay Hlaing, Permanent Secretary U Win Zaw Aung and the Director General of the Immigration Department.
