Ambassador of Sri Lanka Dr. Palitha T.B. Kohona visited the China Great Wall Industry Corporation on invitation from President of the Corporation Guo Zhaoping on 05 January 2021. The Sri Lanka delegation spent over eight hours with senior officials of the corporation and discussed potential areas of cooperation in the fields of technology, agriculture, industry, renewable energy and trade. The China Great Wall Industry Corporation is a subsidiary of the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), a leading State-owned enterprise which has contributed massively to China’s technological advancement.
Ambassador Dr. Kohona briefed the Chinese side on the policy of the government of Sri Lanka on investments, trade and its commitment to the development of the country in line with the policy statement “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendor”. Further, he elaborated on the concessions made to foreign direct investments by the Budget-2021 and on the opportunities available in Sri Lanka in the fields of IT, education, renewable energy, agriculture, waste to energy management, trade and tourism and in the Colombo Port City and the Hambantota Development Zone.
Emphasizing further on the current government investment policy, Dr. Kohona pointed out that Sri Lanka being an active partner of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), expects greater investments from Chinese companies to assist in developing its IT industry, particularly in advanced IT education and IT based agriculture. President Gao affirmed his fullest cooperation. The President also agreed to assist in providing assistance through his companies for Sri Lankan companies exporting agricultural products to access the lucrative Chinese market.
Deputy Chief of Mission K.K.Yoganaadan and Minister Commercial Alexi Gunasekera accompanied the Ambassador.
