The Ambassador-designate of Sri Lanka to the State of Israel Waruna Wilpatha assumed duties at the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Tel Aviv on 29 September 2019.
The members of the staff of the Mission organized a ceremony to welcome the Ambassador-designate at the Chancery where Mr. Wilpatha lit the traditional oil lamp and addressed the staff emphasising the importance of working together to further enhance the existing bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Israel and to serve the Sri Lankan community in Israel.
The Ambassador-designate is a career diplomat who has previously served at Sri Lanka Missions in Russia, Germany, Cuba and Canada. Prior to the appointment as Ambassador, he served as the Director General of the Human Resource and Mission Management Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo. He is a graduate of the University of Colombo.
