The Ambassador – designate of Sri Lanka to the Arab Republic of Egypt M.K Pathmanaathan assumed duties on 25 January 2020. He was received upon arrival at the Cairo International Airport by special representative of the Egyptian Foreign Ministry.
The Ambassador-designate M.K Pathmanaathan assumed duties after the religious observances and lighting of the traditional oil lamp. The Ambassador-designate while addressing the gathering thanked the entire staff for continuing the activities of the Mission amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and appreciated the contribution made by the Embassy in enhancing the promotion of bilateral relations between the two countries. He further reiterated the importance of working towards upgrading bilateral relations between Sri Lanka and Egypt during his tenure.
The Ambassador-designate M.K Pathmanaathan joined Sri Lanka Foreign service in 1996 and served as Director General, Human Resources & Missions Management Division of the Foreign Ministry of Sri Lanka immediately prior to his appointment in Cairo. He has served in Sri Lanka Mission in Chennai, Kuala Lumpur and London in various capacities. He also served as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman from October 2015 to June 2019.
