Ambassador Designate of Sri Lanka calls on the Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister

Sri Lanka's Ambassador-designate to the State of Kuwait, U. L. Mohammed Jauhar paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of the State of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on 1 October 2019 and presented copies of his Letters of Credence.

The Deputy Prime Minister while welcoming the Ambassador-designate observed that Sri Lanka and Kuwait enjoy excellent bilateral relations. He expressed hope that the bilateral relations will be further strengthened during the tenure of the new Ambassador. He also conveyed their gratitude for the contribution of Sri Lankan migrant workers on implementing development projects in Kuwait.

Sheikh Al-Sabah commended the Government of Sri Lanka for the steps taken to bring the situation to normalcy, in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attack, and also stated that the international community admired the way Sri Lanka handled it.

While recalling the mutual support and cooperation being extended by the two countries in the international fora, Sheikh Al-Sabah specifically mentioned the efforts taken by Kuwait to assist Sri Lanka during the United Nations Human Rights Council sessions in Geneva.

The Ambassador-designate conveyed the appreciation of Sri Lanka to the Kuwaiti Government for the development assistance and for their support in the international fora. He said that the concessionary loans from the Kuwait Fund for development projects in Sri Lanka make a big difference in the lives of people and the proposal for the establishment of Medical Faculty at the University of Moratuwa is also under process.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah, Assistant Foreign Minister for Protocol Affairs Ambassador Dhari Ajran Al-Ajran, Acting Assistant Foreign Minister Ambassador Saleh Al-Loughani and Minister of the Mission Poshitha Perera.
