Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman Ameer Ajwad paid a courtesy call on the new Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation of the Sultanate of Oman, Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim bin Said Al- Mahrouqiyah on 15 November 2020 at the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation in Muscat.
During the meeting Ambassador Ameer Ajwad and Minister Al- Mahrouqiyah discussed ways and means for establishing links between High Educational Institutions of the two counties as well as to promote exchange programmes between faculty members and students of the Universities of both countries. They also agreed to work on a proposal to conclude a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the field of Higher Education between Sri Lanka and Sultanate of Oman.
Minister Al- Mahrouqiyah hailed contributions made by the Sri Lanka academics to the Sultan Qaboos University of the Sultanate of Oman.
His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Thariq recently appointed Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim bin Said Al- Mahrouqiyah as the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation of the Sultanate of Oman who served previously as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research at the Sultan Qaboos University in Muscat. She was also a Professor in the Department of English Language and Literature, College of Arts and Social Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University.
First Secretary of the Embassy W.D.N.M Abeysekara accompanied the Ambassador during the meeting.
