Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman O.L. Ameer Ajwad called on Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah on 02nd January 2020 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman in Muscat.
Welcoming the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Sultanate of Oman, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah recalled historical links between Sri Lanka and the Sultanate of Oman and hailed the vibrant people-to-people relations between the two countries.
Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of Oman also commended the Sri Lankan community in Oman as a peaceful community and thanked for their contribution to the development of the Sultanate of Oman.
Ambassador Ameer Ajwad conveyed the greetings from the Minister of Foreign Relations of Sri Lanka, Dinesh Gunawardena to his counterpart of the Sultanate of Oman and highlighted the growing bilateral relations between the two countries. Ambassador also underlined the progress made following the signing of the landmark Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Political Consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Sri Lanka and the Sultanate of Oman, which was signed in 2012 during the Official Visit of Minister Yusuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah to Sri Lanka. Ambassador Ameer Ajwad briefed on a range of potential areas of mutual benefit that were identified for cooperation between the two counties during the two rounds of Political Consultation held in Muscat and Colombo in 2014 and 2018 respectively. The Third round of Consultation will be held in Muscat this year.
Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of Oman expressed his support to further enhance bilateral cooperation in all areas of mutual interest between Sri Lanka and Oman and wished Ambassador Ameer Ajwad for a successful tenure in the Sultanate of Oman.
