Admiral Professor Jayanath Colombage, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Indonesia met Admiral Yudo Margono, the Commander- in – chief of Indonesian Armed Forces (C-in-C of TNI) at Armed Forces Headquarters in Jakarta on 04 May 2023. The Ambassador was received by the Admiral Margano and senior military officers of TNI and accorded with a Guard of Honour.
Ambassador Colombage and the Admiral Margono had a cordial dialogue on Defence and security related matters, especially the possible bilateral cooperation in the maritime related activities in the Indian Ocean where Indonesia plays a major role for the security and stability of the Indo -Pacific region. The Role of Indonesia in ASEAN Outlook on Indo -Pacific and Indonesian initiative of ASEAN Maritime Outlook were also discussed and the Ambassador expressed the willingness of Sri Lanka to be a part of the initiatives for mutual benefits.
Admiral Margono, stated that Indonesia will continue to provide professional military education in Indonesian Defence Institutes and expressed his willingness to assist Sri Lanka Navy in Hydrography. The Ambassador thanked the Admiral Margano for the opportunity given for two Sri Lankan Navy Officers to sail onboard Indonesian Navy Cadet Training Ship KRI Bima Suci from Port of Colombo to Port Salalah in Oman.
The Ambassador highlighted the importance of geostrategic location of both countries in the Indian Ocean and mutual benefits of working together in the areas of maritime cooperation.
