A Parliamentary delegation from Sri Lanka, headed by Hon. Kumara Welgama, undertook a visit to Germany from 2-9 June 2019 on an invitation extended by the German-South Asia Parliamentary Friendship Group.
The delegation was comprised of Hon. Members of Parliament, Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, Sunil Hadunnetti, S.M. Marikkar, Wijepala Hettiarachchi, Shanthi Sriskandarasa and Assistant Director /Administration of the Sri Lanka Parliament, Janakantha Silva.
During the visit, the delegation met with the Vice President of the German Parliament Dr. Hans-Peter Friedrich, Deputy Chairperson of the Foreign Committee on Civilian Crisis Prevention, Conflict Resolution and Network Action, Dr. Daniela De Ridder, Chairperson of the German-South Asia Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mr. Tobias Pflüger and officials of the GIZ, Federal Ministries for Foreign Affairs and Economic Cooperation and Development.
In addition, the delegation visited the Federal Parliament of Germany, State Parliament of Brandenburg, German Geo-research Centre in Potsdam and memorial Topography of Terror, during the visit.
Ambassador Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi hosted a dinner, in honour of the delegation on 6 June 2019 at the official residence. Chairman of the German-South Asia Parliamentary Friendship Group, Mr. Tobias Pflüger, M.P. also attended the dinner.
