Welcoming the gathering, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Republic of Indonesia, Admiral (Prof.) Jayanath Colombage highlighted the significance of religious celebrations such as Deepavali, which symbolize the unity in diversity in a multicultural country like Sri Lanka. The ceremony was graced by Ambassador of Indonesia to Sri Lanka, Dewi Gustina Tobing who attended the event as the guest of honor.
The celebrations included religious observances and traditional dances invoking blessings, performed by members of the Hindu community residing in Jakarta. The Embassy premises were adorned with traditional Deepavali decorations, including a vibrant ‘Kolam’. The event concluded with a reception where traditional Deepavali dishes were served.
The Embassy of Sri Lanka stands out as the only Embassy in Jakarta that celebrates the four major religious festivals: Iftar, Deepavali, Vesak, and Christmas, representing the diverse, multi-religious, and multi-ethnic social fabric in Sri Lanka.
