Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bahrain conducts a community awareness programme

The Embassy of Sri Lanka in the Kingdom of Bahrain successfully conducted a community awareness programme on 03 October 2024, with the aim of addressing the concerns of the Sri Lankan expatriate community residing in Bahrain. This initiative is part of the Embassy's ongoing community outreach programme to support and engage with the Sri Lankan community, fostering better communication and ensuring their well-being.

The event was held at the Embassy premises, chaired by the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Bahrain, H.M.G.R.R.K. Wijeratne Mendis, with the participation of Head of Chancery Madhuka Silva; Head of the Employment and Welfare Section, Swarna Rathnayake; and other staff members of the Embassy.

The event was attended by the members of the Sri Lankan community associations in Bahrain, representing the professionals as well as skilled and unskilled migrant workers. Attendees were provided with important updates on consular services, and the nature of assistance rendered to the Sri Lankan community by the Embassy. Matters related to labour rights and regulations, employment contracts, non-payment of salaries, and avenues for safe migration were also discussed.

The programme provided the Sri Lankan expatriate community in Bahrain with a platform to openly express their concerns, share experiences, and discuss their issues, and also to make suggestions during their direct interactions with the staff of the Embassy. This transparent and constructive engagement further strengthened the Embassy's ongoing commitment to address the community’s needs.
