The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Israel in collaboration with the National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority (NAITA) and the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) of Sri Lanka successfully organized NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) Level 3 and 4 written and practical examinations in Israel from 23 July to 02 August 2024. It provided a platform for Sri Lankan caregivers working in Israel to enhance their skills and obtain internationally recognized qualifications.
Following the exams, an honorary graduation ceremony was held on 28 September 2024 at the Israel Conservatory of Music in Tel Aviv, the leading convention centre in the city. The event celebrated the achievements of 304 Sri Lankan caregivers, both male and female who successfully completed the programme.
The ceremony was attended by the Ambassadors of Vietnam, Rwanda, the Republic of Kenya, and the CDAs of China, Myanmar, Thailand, and Nepal based in Tel Aviv. In addition, the Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Israel Nimal Bandara, Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Haifa and Northern Israel Dr. Anat Bernstein-Reich, Inspector of Colleges and Teacher Trainer at the Israeli Ministry of Education Neomi Pagir, CEO of Her Way Institute Einat Weissbort, and members of the Embassy were also present at the event.
In his remarks, Ambassador Nimal Bandara emphasized the importance of this programme and noted that this is the first time that NVQ physical test was held in a foreign country as a pilot project. He further stated that the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Israel has been entrusted with conducting the programme. The primary objective of the programme was to assess and improve the skills of caregivers using modern technology to enhance their career prospects.
The Ambassador also highlighted the importance of South-South cooperation, stating that developing countries like Sri Lanka can share their vocational training achievements with other fellow countries to foster mutual growth and learning.
Honorary Consul of Sri Lanka in Haifa and Norther Israel, Dr. Anat Bernstein-Reich appreciated Sri Lanka's commitment to upskilling its workers even after they are deployed abroad. She noted that Sri Lanka stands out as a country committed to the continuous development of the cross-border employability of its workforce.
At the ceremony, 304 recipients received their certificates from the Ambassadors, CDAs and diplomats present, marking a milestone in their careers.
