Sri Lanka's Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Omar Lebbe Ameer Ajwad paid a courtesy call on Saudi Arabia's Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Eng. Abdulrahman Abdulmohsen Al-Fadley in Riyadh on 19 August 2024, and presented a Sri Lankan sapling of Bougainvillea as a symbolic gesture in support of Saudi Arabia’s Green Initiative (SGI) which is closely aligned with the 2030 Vision of the Kingdom.
While extending a warm welcome to Ambassador Ameer Ajwad to Saudi Arabia, Minister Abdulrahman highlighted potential cooperation between the two countries in the areas covered under his purview. He also emphasized the importance of enhancing private sector cooperation.
Ambassador Ameer Ajwad, in response, expressed Sri Lanka's readiness to partner with Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 and in particular to collaborate with Saudi Green Initiative (SGI) which aims to address climate change, reduce emissions, protecting land and sea as well as increasing the use of clean energy in the Kingdom.
Minister Abdulrahman, who also serves as Chairperson for several Saudi organizations, including the Saudi Grain Organization, the Saline Water Conversion Corporation, and the Saudi Arabia Livestock Company (SALIC), was the former CEO of Almarai, Saudi Arabia's largest multinational dairy company, from 2000 to 2015.
