Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar Presents Letters of Credence to the Chairman of the State Administration Council and  Prime Minister of Myanmar

Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Myanmar Prabashini Ponnamperuma presented the letters of Credence to the Chairman of the State Administration Council of Myanmar, Prime Minister, Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on 11 June 2024, at an event held at the Office of the State Administration Council in Nay Pyi Taw.

At the courtesy call on the Prime Minister, after the presentation of credentials, the Ambassador conveyed the warm wishes of President of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickcremesinghe to the Prime Minister of Myanmar. The felicitations were also extended for the 75th Anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries in June 2024. Recalling the old and historical relationship between the two countries based on Theravada Buddhism, the Ambassador highlighted the expanding the existing relationship to other significant areas.

Accordingly, the requirement of enhanced collaboration and progress in the areas including trade, economic, investments, agriculture, health and pharmaceutical, education, air connectivity, tourism, and defence, between the two countries were discussed. The matter of rescuing of stranded Sri Lankans in Myanmar was also discussed where the Prime Minister assured the continuation of the provision of maximum support towards Sri Lanka until the matter is being solved.

Joint Secretary of the Council Lt-Gen Ye Win Oo, Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe, and Director General of the Protocol Department U Wunna Han were present at the occasion.

After the presentation of credentials, Ambassador Prabashini Ponnamperuma paid courtesy calls on  Deputy Prime Minister and Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar U Than Swe,  Union Minister for Immigration and Population   U Myint Kyaing, Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn,  Union Minister for Home Affairs Lt-Gen Yar Pyae,, ., Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture U Tin Oo Lwin, , Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung, , Union Minister for Health Dr. Thet Khaing Win,  Union Minister for Industry Dr. Charlie Than, discussed the potential and untapped areas for collaboration.

Ambassador Prabashini Ponnamperuma is a career foreign service officer, who joined the Sri Lanka Foreign Service in 2003, and held different ranks and positions in the Ministry and Sri Lanka  Missions abroad, including the positions of Director General of the Overseas Assets Management Division and the Africa Affairs Division.  She holds a Master of International Relations from the Monash University in Australia (2013), a Master of Science in Aquatic Resource Development and Fisheries from the University of Sri Jayawardenapura (2002), and a Bachelor of Science in Zoology (Honors) from the University of Delhi in India (1998). She is a past pupil of the Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo.
