Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Milan celebrates Christmas aligning with the spirit of giving

The Consulate General of Sri Lanka in Milan, Italy commemorated the birth of Jesus Christ, aligning with the true Christmas spirit by aiding less fortunate Sri Lankan families living in Milan.  Dry rations and Christmas presents were distributed for few identified families with small children and unemployed elderly. The funds for this worthy cause were sourced through voluntary contributions made by the staff members of the Consulate General.

Furthermore, on the Christmas eve, the Consulate General served refreshments to Sri Lankan churchgoers attending the midnight mass conducted in Sinhala language which was held at Basilica di Santo Stefano Maggiore in the Centre of Milan. Ginger tea and panettone, sweet bread traditionally originated in Milan, Italy and popular among Milanese during the Christmas season were served to the thousands of Sri Lankans who attended the mass. The Consulate General collaborated with St Joseph's International College and Bloom International School, the two Sri Lankan schools in Milan and Muthuhara Childrens’ Society- Milan chapter to serve these refreshments.

The goodwill gesture extended by the Consulate General at the dawn of Christmas 2023 was appreciatively welcomed and commended by community members.
