Embassy of Sri Lanka in Bahrain organizes an awareness programme by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority

An awareness programme to enhance the knowledge of procedures and services provided by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority among the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain, organized by the Embassy was held on 03 May 2023 at the Embassy premises. Over 35 members of the Sri Lankan community associations in Bahrain representing a cross section of the Sri Lankan community in Bahrain, the professionals as well as skilled and unskilled migrant workers attended the event.

The delegation of Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) to the programme was led by Acting Deputy CEO, Operations and Information System Ahmed Ebrahim Al Arabi with experts from the LMRA.  Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Kingdom of Bahrain H.M.G.R.R.K. Wijeratne Mendis, Head of Chancery Shashika Somaratne, Head of the Labour and Welfare Section of the Embassy Anusha Jayawardena with other members of the staff participated in the programme.

Welcoming the LMRA delegation on behalf of Ambassador Wijeratne Mendis, Head of Chancery Shashika Somaratne conveyed appreciation to the LMRA led by Chief Executive Officer  Nouf Abdulrahman Jamsheer for their steadfast cooperation to the Embassy of Sri Lanka. Observing the increased interest among Sri Lankans to work in Bahrain, Minister and Head of Chancery emphasized the Sri Lankan Government’s policy prioritizing foreign employment promotion while ensuring the safety and welfare of migrant workers and their families as well as potential foreign employment seekers.

Conducting the awareness programme, the LMRA experts, Senior Clients Services Specialist  Baheya Al Arrayed, Chief Expatriates Services  Ahmed Al Shomali, Senior Legal Researcher  Hajer Ali Abdulrahman Ahmed, and Head of National Referral Mechanism section Fahad Abdulaziz Al Asmi, provided comprehensive briefings on the services provided by the LMRA and the LMRA’s procedures, rules and regulations for the expatriates. The programme concluded with a Q & A session, providing the participants an opportunity to seek clarifications and responses to their issues. Attaché of the Embassy Manula Kundapperuma delivered the Vote of Thanks.

The awareness programme is part of the Embassy’s regular community outreach activities with the authorities of the Government of Bahrain, based on the advice of Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Labour and Foreign Employment.
