Sri Lankan Airline flight departed Beijing at 19:30 hrs. on 25 May 2021 (Beijing time) carrying 500,000 Sinopharm doses gifted by China to Sri Lanka. This is the second consignment of vaccines gifted by China. Previously China gifted 600,000 vaccines.
The Ambassador, Dr. Palitha Kohona visited the Beijing airport on 23 May 2021 to supervise the handing over of the consignment and clear the necessary documents . The Embassy is closely working with the relevant authorities in China and Sri Lanka to procure a further 14 million vaccine doses from Sinopharm.
