Ambassador Shani Calyaneratne Karunaratne held bilateral talks with the Chairman of the Lebanese Economic Organizations Mohamed Choucair who is concurrently the Chairman of Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon. Mohamed Choucair was the former Minister of Telecommunications of Lebanon and is recognized as an influencer on potential investments.
Chairman Choucair who runs a very successful Chocolate Industry worldwide, a supplier to Harrods and owns over 1000 outlets worldwide, expressed his interest in opening a factory in South Asia and discussed about the chocolate consumption in Asia. He also discussed the possibility of investing in Sri Lanka and requested follow-up meetings between his Chamber and Ambassador.
The Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon Headquartered in Hamra in a large building is adorned by works of renowned artists.
The Chairman asked about Sri Lankan Art and informed the Ambassador that he had visited Sri Lanka twice and he is very impressed with Sri Lanka’s beauty, cleanliness and able workforce.
Chairman gifted a coffee table book titled Beirut and the Chamber to the Ambassador.
Ceylon Tea and Tea dyed face masks were ceremoniously handed over to the Lebanese Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Beirut and Mount Lebanon for free distribution.
Second Secretary Labour, T Luxmidharan Attaché Mrs. Anushya Sumanawardena, Mrs. Primali Rathnathunga, Mr. G S Hettiarachchi and Mr. T B Samarakoon accompanied the Ambassador to the meeting.
