The Sri Lanka Embassy in Tokyo introduced an Information Tracking System for consular service recipients in March. The main objective of this initiative is to provide a user friendly information tracking system which is efficient, effective and transparent.
Upon receipt of an application for consular services, the applicant will be updated on the current status of his/her request through SMS and email. The applicant will be updated at each stage of the process until the work is completed. There is also an option for the applicant to log into the system and check the status of his/her consular request. At the first stage, this service is limited in relation to Passports, Birth, Citizenship certificates, driving licenses and police clearances. The service will be extended to other consular activities as well in near future.
