Sri Lankan Envoy meets CEO of Bahrain Chamber to boost business ties

Ambassador Pradeepa Saram met the Chief Executive Officer of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) Shaker Al Shater and expressed keenness on consolidating efforts with the chamber to expand business relations between the Kingdom and Sri Lanka.

While hailing the deep-rooted relations between the two countries, the meeting focused on stepping-up trade and stimulating partnerships between both business communities. The importance of exchanging business delegations and holding joint functions were also discussed. Ambassador Saram highlighted that the Sri LankanEmbassy is prepared to cooperate with the chamber in every way possible to benefit the economic standing of both countries.

Perceiving that the main import from Sri Lanka is Ceylon Tea, the CEO of BCCI statedthat it has been found a bigger array of special high-quality products beyond Tea. There are great potentials for them in Manama and in Bahraini markets, Mr. Shater further said.

The Kingdom is also a major employer of Sri Lankans in the Gulf and approximately10,000 skilled and unskilled Sri Lankans are employed in labour and professional service sectors in Bahrain.As per the statistics issued by the Labour Market Regulatory Authority of Bahrain in October 2019, Sri Lanka also remains as one of the top eight nationalities of domestic workers in Bahrain.

BCCI CEO Shater extended an invitation to the Sri Lankan business community to attend the 18thedition of the Arab Businessmen and Investors Conference which will take place in Bahrain from 11 – 13 November 2019.
