The first bilateral consultations between Sri Lanka and Oman took place on 15th January 2014 in Muscat in the Sultanate of Oman. The political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Oman and Sri Lanka was held at the Diplomatic Club in Muscat. Undersecretary for Diplomatic Affairs HE Ahmed bin Yousef al Harthy headed the Omani delegation while Hon Neomal Perera lead the Sri Lankan delegation at the bilateral consultations. The meeting focused on strengthening ties between the two sides in many multifaceted areas that includes Education, Oil and Gas, Culture and Maritime Security.

Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamoud al Busaidi, who received Hon Neomal Perera, Deputy Minister of External Affairs on the sidelines of the bilateral consultations, expressed great pleasure at the strong relations between the two countries.
