A combined Defence Services Parachuting Team representing the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development participated at the 1st CISM Asia Military Parachuting Championship and Indonesia Military Parachuting Open 2012. The Team was assisted by the Sri Lanka Mission in Jakarta.

The Team was led by Col. Priyantha Senaratne (Chief of Mission), Col. Jayantha Balasooriya (Team Leader), Lt. Cdr. Herath of the Sri Lanka Navy (invited as one of the Judges) and Gp. Capt. Athula Nanayakkara of the Sri Lanka Air Force (Coach).

The championship consisted of an Individual Accuracy Event and a Team Event which was based on the accurate maintenance of a given formation.

A total of 35 countries took part in this first ever parachuting competition, including Australia, Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Kazakhstan, Qatar and Sri Lanka and many teams from Indonesia, including the Indonesian Armed Forces and the Police.

Sri Lankan Ambassador, Major General (Retd.) Nanda Mallawaarachchi VSV, witnessed the competition on 25th September 2012 at the Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, located in the main Indonesian Air Force Base, where the Sri Lankan Parachuters took part in the accuracy event.
