Hon. Minister of External Affairs Professor G.L Peiris has approved the appointment by the Sri Lankan High Commission in South Africa of Mr Chulpathmendra Dahanayake as Sri Lanka’s first Honorary Consul in Botswana.
Hon. Minister of External Affairs Professor G.L Peiris has approved the appointment by the Sri Lankan High Commission in South Africa of Mr Chulpathmendra Dahanayake as Sri Lanka’s first Honorary Consul in Botswana.
Mr Dahanayake is a well-established legal professional in Gaborone and has also been involved in academic work as a full time lecturer at theUniversity of Botswana. Having lived in Botswana for over 23years it is envisaged that Mr Dahanayake will assist the Pretoria High Commission to develop the relationship between Sri Lanka and Botswana. The Sri Lankan community in the country has a reputation for its professionalism and many are employed in highechelons of government and the private sector.
H.E. Shehan Ratnavale Sri Lankan High Commissioner in Pretoria South Africa concurrently accredited to Botswana gave Mr Dahanayake the commission letter appointing him as Honorary Consul in Botswana. At this meeting it was agreed that focus should be given to develop opportunities for Sri Lankan professionals in Botswana, as well as to pursue opportunities for Sri Lankan companies in construction, IT and hospital services. Botswana also plans to position itself as a focal point for the diamond industry which may enable synergies with Sri Lankan companies in diamond cutting and polishing as well as gems and jewellery.
